We are excited to announce that Agreka Build and the Biorenewables Development Centre have been awarded £111K in funding under the prestigious Royce’s Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) Round 5! 🏆
The Royce's ICP is an initiative designed to encourage collaboration between academia and industry, supporting projects that bring innovative technologies to market. Its primary objectives include:
Supporting industry-academic collaborations
Helping industry solve critical challenges and promote UK growth

Project Overview
This funding award will enable us to develop and apply a bio-based, biodegradable coating for our flagship WHEATEX insulation material, starting October 2025. This innovative coating will enhance both fire retardancy and water resistance without compromising the material’s circular, low-carbon credentials.
The coating will be sourced from renewable materials and will undergo rigorous testing for compatibility with WHEATEX boards, ensuring it meets the high standards required for sustainable, modern construction. This collaboration aligns perfectly with Agreka Build’s mission to create green, sustainable building materials that help drive the transition to a net-zero future.
The development of this new bio-based coating is a crucial step towards enhancing the performance of WHEATEX, ensuring that it meets the evolving demands of the construction industry while contributing to a sustainable future. We’re excited to see how this innovation will make a positive impact on building practices worldwide.
